From January 11 to 18, 2026, representatives of the Foundation for sustainable development of education (FURO) and the Autonomous Educational Organization "Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools" (NIS) visited the Chinese city of Xi'an as part of a strategic education mission. The trip took place within the long-term partnership between the two organizations, aimed at building the capacity of rural hub schools in Kazakhstan.
The main goal of the visit was to study international experience in STEM education, digital technologies, and modern teaching methods. The delegation paid particular attention to the possibilities of adapting advanced educational practices to the conditions of rural schools in Kazakhstan.
The host institution was Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU), one of China's major teacher-training universities, founded in 1944. Today the university has more than 34,000 full-time students.
During the trip, FURO and NIS representatives learned about approaches to integrating modern technologies into the educational process and about the university's experience in teacher training. The knowledge and practices gained are planned to be used to further improve the learning environment in rural hub schools in Kazakhstan.
The education mission was another step in developing international cooperation and finding effective solutions to narrow the gap in education quality between urban and rural schools.
